Basic training for consultants

Consultants, whether internal or external, are expected to be a model to others in terms of skilfully combining intelligence with social flexibility, technical expertise, creativity and effortless efficiency. Our consultant qualification programme consists of three modules specially designed to advance competence in this respect. We start from the assumption that, in addition to the tools specific to consulting, a consultant must acquire the same abilities as a good leader. In contrast to traditional training, the didactics employed in this intensive qualification programme essentially rests on two pillars:

1. The consultant’s "tools" (level of methods), e. g.:

  • techniques” of leadership and communication for consultants,
  • methodology of conducting a consultation conversation,
  • conflict resolution methods,
  • models of change processes and their application,
  • constellation positioning in organisations as a method for identifying and solving problems
  • and many more,

and

2. "the consultant as tool" (level of personality), e.g.:

  • personal impression,
  • one’s own ability to change,
  • inner stance and role understanding,
  • personal commitment,
  • reflection on one’s self-image/ one’s view of the other.

"The consultant’s tools" addresses the methodical level of manageable interventions and tools. At this level, training aims at strengthening the participants’ social and leadership competence in day-to-day consultation practice or project work by providing methodical know-how.

"The consultant as tool" brings personality into play, without which the tools one has learned to apply will remain ineffective. The ability to reach people is crucial for a project’s success, and this ability relies on personal and social competence. At the same time methodical know-how is imparted, a modular and step-by-step increasingly more profound process is set in motion within all modules, in which participants are given an opportunity to reflect upon their own personality, focussing on “inner stance”, and to autonomously initiate and bring about desired change.

In addition to group interaction, intensive feedback und coaching sequences create scope for intensive work in this respect (also in evening sessions) while also having fun.

The – according to our experience – great impact and thus the “charm” of this approach lies in the fact that this process is fostered by practical, everyday examples, case studies and tasks, along with the corresponding methods applied. In consequence, personality development is supported and driven by advancing methodical knowledge. The modules of this training sequence are organised in a way that participants have plenty of opportunity to practice and to gain an advanced understanding of their role as internal or external consultant by concrete experience.
